Banter with: Jessica & Aidan

How did he/she propose?

Jessica - 14th of September 2019. Aidan got down on one knee proposed on the South Perth foreshore overlooking the Perth city skyline as the sun set. Aidan - I secretly bought the ring in July 2019 and soon after Jess announced that she wanted to save all our money to go to Japan, so I had to try and find a free way to propose that she wouldn't expect. On the morning of, I took her to the Araluen Botanical Park and on the drive home she told me she thought I was going to propose, so she wasn't expecting it at all when later in the day I took her to the South Perth Foreshore and proposed.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

Jessica - The lolly jars on the tables are lovingly handmade by my parents, Ray & Lisa Edwards. They own Walkers Candy Co and made the lollies for us for our wedding. Walkers Candy Co make old fashioned handmade traditional hard boiled candies in Morley WA. It was really important to me that I had Walkers Candy Co lollies at my wedding as both Aidan and I worked together at Walkers earlier on in our relationship and shared so many special memories there. The lolly jars double as name tags and take-home gifts for our guests. The copper hanging tea light centrepieces were sourced from Facebook Marketplace.

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

Jessica - When I was a kid, I imagined my wedding day would be this winter wonderland ball with snow, a frozen-over-lake and swan ice sculptures (I was a big fan of Barbie Swan Lake as a kid). Living in Western Australia (HOT!) during the COVID-19 Pandemic (Borders Closed) meant that I had to give up on my snowy winter wonderland dreams and plan something more achievable in our sunny & locked-down state.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

Jessica - My flowers are from Fete Luxe. I gave Kristie the brief: romantic, moody and intimate, and she was the one who got creative to make this magical pieces. My gown is a custom made by the amazing Gerry at Qnique Bridal based here in Perth WA. After going to 10+ dress stores and not finding The One, I decided to track down a designer who was a little bit different and unique to bring my vision to life. My favours are hard boiled candies lovingly handmade by my parents, Lisa & Ray Edwards. They own Walkers Candy Co, a candy factory in Morley WA. This stunning cake is made by Cookie Bites By Cass, this cake is a chocolate raspberry red velvet cake and that Aidan and I order at least once a year for our special occasions because it is so delicious. The cake topper is a glass horse and carriage borrowed from my Mum & Dad who had it top their wedding cake back in the day when they got married. The menu's, seating plan and all other hire items have been organised through Sandra at Bella Event Co who is an absolute dream to work with. She'd made me feel so calm and relaxed, and made the planning process of the day stress-free for Aidan and I.

What was your favourite moment?

Jessica - My favourite moment was the First Look we had at Lilac Hill Park in Caversham. Having that special time before all the formal stuff helped us both relax. Aidan - My favourite moment was sitting down at our reception, looking over at all of our family & friends next to my wife. It was the first time in the day where I felt like we actually got to stop and really take in the moment.

Any other cool stories about the day?

Jessica - Everyone in the lead up to the day told us to make sure that we sit down and eat, and that we take time out of the day to spend time with each other, as the day goes so fast and before you know if you've spoken 5 words to your partner since the ceremony, and you don't want to regret not spending more time with your partner. So to make sure we did those two things, we sat at the bridal table by ourselves and we planned our sunset photoshoot to just be for the two of us. I would recommend this to everyone and anyone that will listen. You have your whole lives to catch up with family members and chat to friends, but you only have one day to enjoy your wedding day with your favourite person in the world.
